15 Shivalaya (१५ शिवालय)

Pandra Shivalaya refers to a group of 15 sacred Shiva temples located within the Pashupatinath Temple complex in Kathmandu. Each shrine houses a lingam, symbolizing Lord Shiva, adding to the spiritual significance of this revered site. Situated in the eastern part of the Pashupatinath complex, along the upper banks of the Bagmati River, these temples form an important part of the religious and architectural heritage of the area.

The Pandra Shivalayas were constructed by Kazi Bal Narasingh Kunwar, the father of Jung Bahadur Kunwar, and they exemplify traditional pagoda style architecture. Over time, these shrines have faced the threat of deterioration, yet they continue to contribute to the spiritual and aesthetic appeal of the Pashupatinath area. Each Shivalaya, with its Shivalinga, not only serves as a place of worship but also enhances the overall beauty and sanctity of this iconic site.
